What To Expect

Let your therapist know what you are looking for, and discuss how his/her approach can help you. If you have any concerns about the upcoming treatment talk about them, the information you give between the therapist and yourself is confidential, and it is important that you are comfortable during the massage. In a standard massage treatment, you will be draped with a sheet and only the area’s being worked on are exposed. You may choose to be totally of partially unclothes under the sheet (drape). Feel free to ask about the draping method and let the therapist know what you are comfortable with.

Oil or lotion is commonly used to enable the therapist’s hands to slide over the skin without causing irritation or pulling on hair. Inform the therapist if you have any allergies to specific oils, lotions, or aromas. Talking during a massage is optional; some people prefer silence while others like more social interaction. Whether you feel any pain during a treatment depends on many factors including; your physical condition, your preference, the reason for the massage, your pain tolerance, and the therapists technique. During the treatment the therapist should ask for feedback about the pressure and your comfort, if not feel free to give that feedback. At any time during the treatment if there is something you don’t understand ask questions, share any concerns and above all relax and enjoy your massage!
